Appareo Stratus and Foreflight are essentially made for each other and only each other....it's a shame that they don't open source it for better flexibility for ADS-B transceiver/Receiver options like other EFB and/or ADS-B manufacturers do....there is another EFB company that states on their website that their product will work with Stratus, but I believe that it is only with certain models of Stratus, and that there are glitches that interfere with smooth operation. On a 16gig foreflight dedicated i Pad mini - flying about So Cal, Colorado, Idaho, Wyo, UT, NMex, AZ, there's still plenty room for all that is needed including FARs, approaches, etc.. That said, it was a great tool to have to help decide when it was time to get on the ground as every afternoon it definitely got tricky.Brett, the Stratus 2S receiver is excellent for VFR use and it is extremely accurate and fast. For real time tactical information you would need weather radar or a Stormscope as the info on the Stratus could be many minutes old by the time it is displayed for the first time. I bought mine to use as a strategtic tool for a VFR flight from Connecticut to Alabama and back.Have even flown several practice approaches stricly using the Stratus GPS data and it will put you right over the runway. Not rock solid, but good enough to save your bacon in a no gyro situation.Stratus has the capability to provide all the info you listed, but you will also need a subscription to Foreflight as well. The pack must supply 2.4 amps to charge the Stratus unit. You can use an external battery pack to extend the battery life. You just need to make sure you have the right cable on board to connect your battery pack to the unit. The cable that comes with the stratus works just fine for this purpose.

i Phone info slightly less limited than the i Pad, but still works like a charm. I usually run my mini i Pad along with my i Phone on the yoke mount. It has a USB charging cord so with a suitable cigarette lighter adapter, it should charge. My aircraft is 24 volt and I use dual amperage (10 amp/ 21 amp adapter) to charge my I pad if necessary and works well. The dual 2.1 amp cigarette lighter plug we sell ( works just fine.

Also, the backup AHRS system and synthetic vision is excellent and extremely responsive. For real time tactical information you would need weather radar or a Stormscope as the info on the Stratus could be many minutes old by the time it is displayed for the first time. What I am concerned about is heavy precipitation and lightening...

So yes it provides real time, but can be delayed UP TO 15 minutes, but usually refreshes sooner... yes - it does overlay the Nex Rad radar with the usual 4-8 minute delay from actual real weather is meant for planning purposes - never for tactical use - i.e.

(USB outlets provide 5 volts.) So, it should work with any 2.1 amp cigarette lighter charger that works with a 24-volt system, such as the one Sporty's sells. There are many options - one state or two, or all, How many documents/plates. I bought mine to use as a strategtic tool for a VFR flight from Connecticut to Alabama and back.

Purchase your i Pad with the maximum recommended memory. At times it seemed real time but this was due to the nature of the pop up thunderstorms which "popped up" as the term implies, but then just stayed in one place as opposed to moving rapidly as they do in the northeast.
